Year 2005-2006 In
Review
All things considered
we had a pretty good season, finishing fifth was a great achievement
for the boys as we had a few new players that had to find their
place in the team and also rainy days at the wrong time of the
season didn't help. We would have made the finals if the last game
wasn't washed out, but that's cricket.
Congratulations to Darren and Billy for topping the batting and
bowling.
Well done to Simon (eminem) who improved heaps during the year even
though he had a few knocks to the head and forgot about training
once or twice....
Patrick who always gave it his best shot as wicket keeper, keep
practicing Pat and make sure you enjoy yourself out on the field.
Great to have you in the team.
Jayde tried very hard all year and was a great team player, took a
couple of terrific catches as well.
Johnno who consistently took the wickets and catches when we needed
them, also got a few runs, well done..
Billy who never said much but bowled like a young Brett lee, had
some of the opposition in tears at times, well done Billy.
Jordan who opened well for the team all year, dicky knee and all,
great to have you in the team Jordan...
Mikael who got our only 50 for the year and came up from Under 11 to
help us out, thanks Mikael.
Campbell who at times had a weird fascination with clumps of dead
grass but always batted and bowled really well, keep it going
through reps this year, well done
Darren, who could hit the ball like Andrew Symonds when he wanted
to, had a great year, hope to see you again next year, well done
Darren
Jack Crook, our resident Pom, opened well and hung around with the
bat when needed, well done Jack
Matt Shepherd, our mini Warney... Congratulations on your "5 years
service award" a pleasure to have you in the team Matt once again. I
expect to see you turning it sideways next year. Well done for a
great year
Eliah, Always ready with advice, whether it was
wanted or not, and always had an opinion on anything that was
happening, BUT well done for the year, great fielding, the BRCC
under 12's wouldn't be the same without you Eliah. Hope to see you
again next season..
Clayton, Hard for me to say something about Clay being his dad but
for me, I think the best part of the year for Clay was that all the
boys in the team liked and respected him as Captain and team mate. I
also thought he did a pretty good job captaining the team. Bowling
and batting were pretty good as well..
Vicki, thanks for looking after the score sheet, stats,
sportzdat etc etc. Couldn't
do it without you.
Also, thanks to Wendy who filled in scoring from time to time and
Shaun and Norm for helping with the coaching.
Anyway, thanks to all the boys (and parents) for making the job of
coaching the BRCC under 12's extremely enjoyable and hope to see you
all again next season. Next year we will be training harder and
aiming to be in the finals from the first game of the year. There
will be no slackening off in the middle of the season and plenty of
laps for those that don't agree...."

4th March

ROUND 11 -
18th February to 25th February 2006
Playing Southport
Labrador Gold at Southport State School.
Day 1, We batted
first to make a very average 133 all out in 34 overs. After letting
the boys know that we really needed to make more runs than that. Now
we would have to bowl "extremely" well to have a chance at the
outright win we needed to make the finals. With 13 overs left to
bowl for the day, stumps saw our opposition at 25 for 7 an amazing
effort by our bowlers gave us a chance at outright victory.
Day two, saw us
bowl out Southport Labrador for 44 runs in the first hour. Leaving
us 39 overs to bowl out the opposition again. We were in a great
position when we had them once again reeling at 6 for 45 but a
dogged batting performance saw us just miss out on the outright win.
Sensational bowling and fielding from the whole team. Well done
boys....

ROUND 10 - 4th
February to 11 February 2006
Another two day game,
this time against Runaway Bay. We are back on the winners list with
an outright victory. We made 217 for 8, a great team performance.
Runaway Bay made 57 for 10 and 67 for 9. Although soundly beaten the
boys from Runaway Bay never gave up and were a credit to their club.
Outstanding efforts by Campbell Dickinson and Simon (Eminem) Willis.

ROUND 9 - 28th
January 2006
A hard fought game. Our
boys tried hard but were unable to get over the top of Queens and
force our first win for a while. Our 127 for 8 was always going to
be about 40 runs short of what we needed. Queens grabbed us in the
last few overs to get 140 for 9. We actually bowled them out in
under 30 overs which was a great performance but not enough to get
us home.
We are improving and I
expect to see us back on the winners list in the near future. |

ROUND 8 - 21st

ROUND 7 -
10th December 2005
Loss to Palm Beach

ROUND 6 -
November 26th - Dec 3rd 2005
I don't really want
to say too much about our first innings effort with the ball.
105 sundries top scored for Mudgeeraba so we were always going
to do it tough. Mudgeeraba finished their first innings with 260
or so runs from their 50 overs, having batted for an extra 10
overs due to the number of sundries. A big effort would be
required to just avoid the follow on.
We were a
different team that took the field the following week. The
boys concentrated ans put in a huge effort to get us to 203 from
our 50 overs avoiding an innings defeat and making the coach
very happy. Special mention to Simon Willis and Jade Batchelor
that held our innings together at the end, a starring effort
from Matt Shepherd and a welcome return to form from Eliah
James. Well done boys.

ROUND 5 -
November 12th - Nov 19th 2005
Amidst a touch of
controversy on the boundary our boys went down to Mudgeeraba red in
a hard fought game.
Mudgeeraba batted
first and made 7 for 190, Clayton Nelmes (3 wickets) and Billy
Stanlake (2 wickets) bowled very well, a great run out from
Johnathon Dempsey helped us out and Jayde Batchelor also bowled very
well without luck. Our ground fielding is getting much better and
should improve more over the coming weeks. A special mention to
Patrick Ibsen who is doing a great job behind the stumps.
We batted the
following week and made 8 for 142, you would swear the ground was
bigger this week as the ball never seemed to make it to the
boundaries. Nonetheless, the boys stuck it out and batted out all
their overs which was a huge effort. Great batting from Darren Budd,
Clayton Nelmes, Johnathon Dempsey and Jack Crook.
Another hard game
this week for the boys so, minds on the job and let's give it a real
good go.

ROUND 1 - October
1st 2005
The Under 12's
opened their 2005/06 season with a hard fought loss to Surfers
Paradise. All boys batted well to make 7 for 118 to Surfers 3 for
148. Our boys tried hard all game but were unable to take the
wickets at regular intervals that we needed to put pressure on the
Surfers team. Special mention to Clayton Nelmes who retired with 40
runs and Matt Shepherd with 2 for 18. Matt very nearly picked up a
hat-trick in our first game.
Also,
congratulations to Clayton Nelmes, Matt Shepherd, Eliah James and
Campbell Dickinson who all made the Under 12 Gold Coast development
Squad. |
