ROUND 5
- November 12th & Nov 19th 2005
Round 5
was our first away game for the season and we again played Merrimac
Velocity. Nathan Cox was captain and after winning the toss he sent
Merrimac into bat. This was a different side to round 3, with
Merrimac having a full compliment of players.
A special thanks to Rick Sales who assisted with coaching &
managing the team for the 1st week in my absence.
We bowled Merrimac out in the 43rd over for 135. Jacob
Mobbs took 3/12 off 8 overs, Reece Williams 3/11 & Dominc Keane
bowled well taking 2/8. Unfortunately extra’s again topped scored
for the opposition with 64 runs. There is much work to do with our
bowlers. Line & length is the key! Our fielding improved with only
a couple of chances going down. The enthusiasm & encouragement
between players has been excellent and can be heard from the
boundary line.
In reply we made 6/225 with all players getting a bat. It was a
solid team effort with the standout batsmen being Dominic Keane
(41), Tom O’Donnell(27), Alex Sutherland (21) – All retired - and
Jaiden Schaeche making a quick 20. Occupying the crease for 45
overs gave the players valuable batting practice.
So after 5 games we now have our 2nd win for the season.
I am sure there will be more to follow

ROUND 4
- October 29th & Nov 5th 2005
Round 4
was played against Coomera-Hope Island at Pizzey Park, the winners
of last year’s trophy. After winning the toss and sending Coomera
into bat, they ended up making 6/193. It was a hard 50 overs in the
field which wasn't helped by the 64 extra's which was their top
score overall. Best of the bowlers was Jaiden Schaeche with 2/23.
Dominic Keane also bowled well without luck taking 0/11 off his 8
overs.
Unfortunately
the following week our batting let us down and we experienced our
1st outright defeat. We were bowled out for 53 in the 1st innings
and 44 in the 2nd. Even though we batted poorly, nothing should be
taken away from Coomera who had a very good bowling attack. Dominic
Keane top scored with a combined 34 from both innings.
Any
outright defeat hurts but I know the boys will bounce back as their
positive attitudes and hunger to succeed will shine through in the
next round. It is all about improvement and the signs are there.
We just need to be consistent and reduce those extras!

ROUND 3
- October 15th & 22nd 2005
Congratulations
to the WHITE’s for not only their 1st
win of the season, but their inaugural win as a new team – In just
their 3rd appearance! Our first 2 day game was played
against Merrimac Velocity. An outstanding batting performance
resulted in the boys achieving 6/237. Brandon Shaw (39), Jaiden
Schaeche (37 not out), and Tom O’Donnell (23 retired) were among the
top scorers. Batting for the full 50 overs and occupying the crease,
gave us invaluable batting experience.
With mother nature assisting for the 2nd
days play, coupled with two players short from the opposition, the
boys made the most of the opportunities to set up a sound victory.
After bowling Merrimac out for 75, we decided to take a chance and
go for an outright win. We needed 8 wickets in 14 overs and fell
only 3 wickets short. Merrimac were 5/20 at the conclusion of the
14 overs. Combine bowling figures over both innings led to some
terrific performances. Alex Sutherland 5 overs, 2/7. Jacob Mobbs,
9 overs 2/10. Dominic Keene 8 overs, 3/5 and Jaiden Schaeche 7
overs, 4/13. Well done to everyone for a solid team performance.

ROUND
2
- October 8th 2005
Round 2 of the season was another one day game played at Pizzey Park
against Surfers Paradise. Unfortunately we fell short of the run
chase, but a significant improvement was evident from Round 1.
Surfers Paradise batted first and made 3/137 in their allocated
time. We were all out in the final over for 85. Although a loss,
the margin was far less than last game and valuable batting &
bowling was enjoyed by most. Congratulations to Dominic Keane who
took 2/22 & made 14 runs. Jaiden Schaeche was next top scorer with
12 not out.

ROUND 1 - October
1st 2005
October 1st was the birth of Broadbeach-Robina U13 WHITE
team. What better a way to start the season than to play against
our fellow club members, U13 BLUE. The White team consisted of 7 new
first time players who thoroughly enjoyed their first cricket match
in club / competition cricket.
It was a one day game and unfortunately we were bowled out for 39.
Well done to Chris Pearson from the Blue team who took 5/1 including
a rare double hat-trick. Brandon Shaw top scored with 6 for the
Whites. The Blues went on to make 5/125, a sound victory. Jacob
Mobbs and Reece Williams were the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets
each for the Whites.
Congratulations to the Blues. Well done to all the players in the
Whites. Participating and having fun is what it is all about. |
