2005/06 -- 1st GRADE REVIEW
After a
disappointing season in 2004/5 in which the “1st’s” finished
6th, the 05/06 season started well with 6 new recruits
including 2 players from England. ( See Players Profile Below).
With the help of
these new players, Broady only lost one game before the
Christmas break and were sitting 2nd
on the ladder behind Palm Beach Currumbin. Notable performances
were Grant Edwards with 10 wickets in game 1, Barney Cutbill
with 10 wickets in game 4. Zac Morris our other English recruit
with 6 wickets and Mitchell Shepherd with 60 runs in game 5. A
fantastic 110 from Jay skinner in game 9 was the highlight of
the season.
After Christmas it was a
different story with Broadbeach only recording 1 win in r games
resulting in Broady dropping to 4th on the ladder with one
game to go. Fortunately the last game was washed out and we
scraped into the Finals. This would be the first time that Broadbeach
had the opportunity to play in a Grand Final and the team made the most
of it - beating an undefeated Alberton in the 1 final and then in
a huge game defeating Southport Labrador in the semi final to go to the
Grand Final against Palm Beach Currumbin and create history. In a very
good game, Palm Beach Currumbin were the victors and Broadbeach came
away from the game with the desire to go one better next season.
Consistent performers for
the season have been Barney Cutbill, Zac Morris, Grant Edwards, Mitchell
shepherd, Jay Skinner, Michael Walker and Tony Andrews (a product of our
Juniors).
Batting Aggregate - Jay Skinner 342 runs : Batting Average - Jay Skinner
34.2
