Broadbeach Robina Second Grade Season 05/06
The season didn’t start off to well for us not being able to put
together to many runs with the bat. As we got the first two
games out of the way and the new faces in the team fell in to
place, runs came a little easier, with an outright win over
south tweed and close game against surfers, that we won with one
wicket and an over to spare we were on a bit of a role with
another couple of wins following, finals were looking very
hopeful.
But with wash outs and byes we lost our momentum coming up to
the pointy end of the season, then a couple of losses really
stung us especially the outright loss to tambourine. Yet again
another wash out for the last game of the season, we really
needed the match practice seeing as we only played 8 0f the 12
games. So from being in a comfortable second on the ladder
before Christmas, we ended up just scraping in forth place with
south tweed nipping out our heels.
Well we made it to the finals; we had to play the team that
finished first in the northern competition, Runaway Bay at
Runaway Bay. We were pretty confident of a win and spirits were
high. They won the toss (as usual, I only won about two for the
year) and chose to bat, which worked out good because we wanted
to bowl anyhow. Doing what we did best we went out there guns
blazing and shot them down for all out for 115 in the first day.
Our turn to bat with the game easily in reach……we were bowled
out about thirty runs shy of the opposing teams score we were
shattered, All In all we had a pretty good year except for the
end result, at least we bowled the number one side out very
cheaply. I would just like to thank all players who played for
me this year, you gave 100% thanks guys, and the flag is ours
next season. Special mentions to Adam Pentland for taking out
both batting awards, Nathaniel ‘BUGSIE’ Slater for taking both
bowling awards and Andy Rodrick for an amazing hat trick.
