Broadbeach Robina Second Grade Season 06/07
Anticipation was high for the season with the Broadbeach seconds
looking the strongest it has been in some years. First
assignment was against the defending premiers Loganholme in a
tight one day finish by ten runs in a very good team
performance.
Second game was very satisfying but a little bit off
disappointment at not getting outright points missing out on 2
wickets. No doubt the story off the game was Kurt Wallace's
undefeated 101 in his second game in five years well done kurt.
The next two games went along very well with another couple off
handy wins against Queens and Palm Beach to have us well and
truly on top after four games which was a good sign with some
big games ahead.
With the christmas break approaching something special seemed to
be brewing and competition for places were hotting up we went
through to christmas undefeated with a 20 point gap on top but
also knowing some very testing challenges awaited us.
Best players to xmas were Reagan Sheehan, Scott Robson, Mitchell
Shepard and Steven Lawn with all others contributing well..
Things started after the break really well with a confidence
boosting outright win over Logan Village and then another
outright against Tambourine with the real star off the show
being Scott Robson taking the excellent match figures off 10 for
36 with seven and three respectively in a great performance.
Next up was the top off the table also undefeated Alberton at
home but it was not the greatest off games for us but a good
wake up call going into the finals with them smashing us by 88
runs only standout being Luke Presley with 5 for 51 off 26 over.
Last game off the season gave us some practice for the finals
with a comprehensive victory over Surfers Paradise setting up a
semi final with the highly rated Mudgeeraba side brimming with
first grade experience.
A good toss to win was won and we set off too bat the day out,
but that wasn't to be. A gutsy effort saw us make a competitive
177 with Andrew Roderick and Robbie Stinson the best of the
batters.
Day two started early with a few rough heads turning up on
Sunday and it showed early with Mudgeeraba looking quiet
comfortable at 3 for 123 with wickets and time on their side
then a few critical run outs and broady had a sniff again, then
in a great and tense final hour with a massive crowd for local
cricket turning up Scott Robson, Andrew Robson and Luke Presley
showed their experience to take seven wickets too win in a
thriller by 12 runs and enjoyed a decent celebration that
night..
Excitement than quickly turned to pain when we were completely
beaten by the better team in Alberton who went through the
season undefeated after bowling us out for 81...
Still a very enjoyable season by those who played in the twos
and a tremendous effort to gat to grand final, also a big thanks
to all the supporters that traveled up for the 2 days sorry to
let u all down maybe next year.
WHOLE TEAM WAS A PLEASURE TO CAPTAIN REGARDS Luke Presley
