Broadbeach Robina 4th Grade 2006/07

The year started with a great first up win, and on paper we had a very handy team. The following week was our first loss. Once the third round had come around we had almost a regular side and things were feeling pretty good within the camp. We had a convincing win over strong competition with our bowlers standing up on the day. The following week we had to play the 4th grade premiers from last year, and although a strong performance was put in by all we unfortunately did not score enough runs on the day. Round 5 and finally we had our strongest team on the field, and it paid dividends with an out right victory over Palm Beach. Round 6 and we were playing the competition leaders on their home turf (Queens), with a strong bowling performance from our slower bowlers we had cleaned them up cheaply and went on to pile on the runs thanks to our first century for the season from Cameron Begley. The next week we came back with one goal in an outright victory. We finally achieved this in the final over of the day with a run out. Round 7 and we had just came back from Christmas break and with 2 out right victories in previous games our confidence was soaring. This however would be our down fall, we lost quite convincingly. Round 8 and we were coming up against one of the lesser teams and again we did not play to our potential but scrapped home with a last wicket win thanks to the bats of Paul Lambert and Tom Rossiter. Round 9 unfortunately this game wasn't the hit out we required but we allowed some of our batsmen to get some we needed time out in the middle, Great performances from Robbie Hayes with a 150 and other big scores coming from across the board, which resulted in a big outright victory. Round 10 saw us host Tamborine and again we let ourselves down by taking the opposition lightly but luckily we came through with an outright victory. The final round was a no result with our competition unable to put a side on the field, which resulted in us claiming equal maximum points for round. This would put us in 3rd spot for the upcoming finals.

Our Semi final would see us travel away to play the 2nd placed Runaway Bay, we lost the toss are we were sent out to field on an extremely hot day. But our bowlers came out firing and we were able to keep them to a fairly cheap total, and had bowled them out with 2 hours play remaining. Our openers went out to bat and wickets fell continuously till the end of days play. We came back the next week but unfortunately for us the pressure of finals had ended our season 1 game short of the final.

Hopefully with a similar team in 2007/08 we can go 2 spots better and bring home some silver ware for Broadbeach Robina.
