Broadbeach Robina Fifth Grade 08/09
5th Grade did not officially start the season until Round 3, so we were already two games down. Our first two games were an exciting 1 wicket win, followed by an 8 wicket win, then four losses and a wash-out. Into December we had two big wins by 110 and 130 runs, followed by a 143 run loss, so at the Christmas break we were 4 wins, 7 losses and a draw. The New Year brought four big wins, a narrow loss, a bye, a big 206 run win, another loss and a 168 run win in the last round. This made our season 10 wins, 7 losses, and 2 draws and a 7th place finish out of 15 teams, and a finals appearance.
Week One of the finals and our luck turned all bad. After naming 13 players on the Thursday night, we lost one to a transport breakdown in Brisbane, two to late work commitments and one no-show. A frantic round of phone calls ensued and we were thankful to get one of the Over-40's (Alan Presley) to play to boost our numbers to 10. We played Palm Beach Gold and were all out for 83 in the 33rd of 35 overs. However with some tight, accurate bowling it took the opposition 27 overs to overtake our modest score, our situation not being helped by dropping 3 catches.
An encouraging first season as a 5th grade side, and hopefully something to build on next year.

Round 3. Our first win with a 33 run last wicket partnership.
Round 9. Dismissing Loganholme for 53 with only 7 players.
Round 16. We were all out for 64 against Runaway Bay; then after they were 1 for 17,
we dismissed them for 48.
Round 21. Dismissed Palm Beach Maroon for 35.
