Broadbeach Robina Fifth Grade Season 06/07
The 5th grade boys will be back on deck again this summer and
keen to improve our results from last season as well as increase
involvement at club level. The team was comprised of players all
from the same workplace and our involvement at the club
originated from a desire to take our team from social indoor
players to the outdoor arena and we are appreciative of the
Broadbeach-Cats Cricket Club for providing us that opportunity.
Whilst it would be fair to say we have an average season last
time around from a results perspective, it was certainly evident
that the team became more competitive with each game and held
less and less trepidation of the opposition as the season
progressed. It was also worth noting that only 3 of the guys in
the team had played any form of outdoor cricket previously and
each game provided valuable learning's, lessons and experiences
that proved valuable in later games. Enjoyment was never an
issue and although we did not generate the wins on the
scoreboard we certainly made sure that we played in the right
spirit, had a solid team ethos and tried to ensure involvement
of everyone where possible.
The gradual improvements resulted in the team being more
competitive, particularly after the Christmas break, and if the
five key points below are addressed we can certainly win more
games this season and our simple goal for the season is to do
just that:
• Commitment is essential and your team mates rely on your
availability – makes it hard to win games when you only have 8
players on a Saturday when we had 11 confirmed on a Friday!!
• We must utilise the full quota of overs when batting – set up
your innings based on the flow of the game and establish your
innings.
• Value your wicket and take pride in your contribution to the
team – make the opposition get you out and give away no free
wickets.
• Support your team mates unconditionally based on the
circumstances in the game – it may be to provide a solid partner
when someone is batting well, support from the sidelines for
your team mates in the middle, using your voice to offer
encouragement and support to your team mates in the field or by
getting a little dirty from time to time.
• Be in the moment and be ready to make the big play, take the
great catch or dominate a bowling attack as every little effort
adds up to make a great one and this game is about teamwork. Be
the person who makes that 1%er and turns a game.
This year we enter the season high in confidence, with a few
extra players and a year of experience together as a team and
look forward to once again representing the Broadbeach Cats on
the field and hopefully enjoy a little more success than last
year, all the while playing the game in the right spirit and
with enjoyment.
Cheers, Dan Mead |
